Misuari case returned to justice dept

THE Calamba Regional Trial Court yesterday returned the rebellion case against Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Nur Misuari to the department of justice (DOJ) after a prosecutor admitted the Jolo fiscal’s office failed to conduct a preliminary investigation into the charges.

Judge Norberto Geraldez ordered the DOJ to conduct the probe within the month after Misuari’s lawyers lamented the failure of a formal preliminary investigation into charges that Misuari who was also the former Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) governor led a group of armed men in an attack on a military installation in Jolo in November 2001.

Failure to complete the investigation by August 5 would force the court to grant Misuari bail, according to Judge Geraldez.
